Gotta Travel in the 1800's?

Travel in the 1800's could consist of several modes of transportation as it does today.  But there were easier ways to decide how to travel.

We have to take a trip in a couple days for a funeral.  We've gone through the internet and checked the airlines and trains, mileage and gas.  To fly or take the train, either way is 14 hours from home to our destination and extra costs...rental cars and such.  The quickest way is to drive...9 to 10 hours.

In the 1800's, a train would be fastest for any distance, if a train was close, if not then a stage, horseback or walking.  People made quick decisions for the choices and time they had to get to their destination.  And how would you have heard about the funeral?  Telegraph or a letter?  It would have had to be a telegram if you were going to get there in time.

Newer and faster is not always better or easier, but in this case I am glad I live in the 21st century.
